The Trouble With Color {Combos}...

Is that sometimes they can really trip you up.   Take, for instance, this week's color combo from ColourQ.   And absolutely lovely combo of  pink, light green, kraft, white and very dark brown.   Piece of cake I thought when I saw it.  I love using kraft in my cardmaking because kraft just goes with well... everything!  But when I got down to it I had such a hard time putting something together that I really liked.  But, the funny thing is... in the end I made two cards!  

Card #1:  I used a Penny Black stamp called Butterfly Suite for this card.  The stamp is rather large and I think that was my problem.  Even after trimming the cardstock down as close to the image as I could and distressing the edges, it still seemed a bit too large for me. 

Card #2:  For this card I used a sketch from The Paper Players and a newly acquired Stampin Up! stamp called Pattern Pieces.  I stamped the image on some paper from the  Girl's Paperie using Early Espresso ink and then trimmed out the pieces.  The image was stamped again on white cardstock and the trimmed out piece adhered with foam dimensionals.  The sentiment is from the Hero Arts set A Kiss from the Sun.

CR84FN + a Birthday Sundae

Hello everybody!!  A card today for two challenges, CR84FN and Birthday Sundaes.   Last week was the first week for the Birthday Sundaes challenge and I played along.  To my delight the sweet gals of the design team picked my card as one of their "Super Sundaes"!   Thanks ladies!! 

Okay... on to my card.  I used the gorgeous color combo provided by the super talented Mona, creator of CR84FN, of garnet, chartruse and cream.   Isn't the inspiration photo just yummy???   But it was also a bit difficult for me and I spent the last few days trying to figure out what direction I would take with this combo.  Several stamps came to mind, but in the end I chose a stamp from Hero Arts called Long Stem Flowers.  I colored the image with Copic markers, R59, R89, YG03 & YG93.  I did run into another bit of trouble trying to figure out a layout for the card since the image is well... long!  But I think I found something that worked in the end.  I know it is hard to tell from the photo, but the cardstock really is cream colored!  The theme this week at Birthday Sundaes is spring.  My card is on the dramatic side, but I think it says spring...

ODBDSLC54 - Frame It! & SNTODBD31 - New to You

Last week Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) celebrated its third annivesary and for the occasion they held a blog hop.   Because it was a celebration there were prizes involved.  One of the prizes was their brand spankin new scripture collections: 5, 6 & 7.   To my shock and delight I was the grand prize winner!  YAY!  The really neat thing about these scripture sets is that each verse in each set was chosen  by the ODBD design team!

This week's challenge is to "frame it".  So for my card today I used a scripture from collection #7, Proverbs 30:5, the scripture chosen by the very talented Patter Cross and framed it using a stamp from the Vine Borders.  The patterned papers are from Girls Paperier.   I'm also putting this card into SNTODBD31 - New To You since all the stamps I used are new to me.

Etsy Inspired....

Hello!  A card I made for the current Etsy Inspired challenge.  The inspiration store this week is Fresh Metal.  O la la!! There are some seriously gorgeous handmade necklaces to be found there!  My card is based on this gorgeous necklace made of cream ribbon, pearls and a beautifully jewelled flower!   When I saw my inspiration piece I thought of some K & Co. flower stickers I had purchased recently.   The layout is based on the current sketch from Clean & Simple.  Only stamping on the card is the sentiment.  Papers are from Stampin Up!

March Card Chain Challenge

In January of this year I started participating in the monthly Card Chain Challenge that can be found at the Hero Arts Flickr group.  The CCC was started by Deborah (aka Gigi on Flickr) over a year ago.  I had always wanted to participate but never seemed to have the time.  Made that one of my goals for this year.  So far I have received cards from the Netherlands, New Zealand and Texas.  This month I was so excited when my bloggy friend, Brenda, got my name.   She lives in Texas and sent me this lovely card:

Isn't it sweet??  I just love the lanterns!   I sent the following card to Sherri who lives in Maine.

A card today for the current Less is More challenge and ColourQ.   What a color combo this week from ColourQ... Concord Grape, Kiwi Kiss, Bermuda Bay, Bashful Blue plus white.   I was a bit stumped as to how I was going to put all those colors together and make the card look nice, but once I took a look at the current Less is More challenge an idea started to form.  Chrissie & Mandi provided a lovely sketch for us to use and the idea to make it a DL card.   I don't know what "DL" stands for, but when I saw the sketch I realized it obviously has something to do with making a long card!   

As a rule I don't make long cards because I don't like how mine look when I try to take a photo of them (think leaning tower of Piza!).   So, I decided to make a little bit longer card.   My card is 6 x 3 3/4 instead of a standard A2 size.   I colored a white paper flower from Irene's Garden with a Copic marker (V09) to get the purple color I wanted.  The lower half of the card was stamped with Hero Art's Classic Fabric Design using Kiwi Kiss ink.  I don't have Bermuda Bay except for one sheet of cardstock, so I subbed in PaperTrey Ink's Hawaiian Shores double stitched ribbon... a pretty close match.  Silly me... I had attached the main panel to the cardbase when I realized I didn't have a sentiment on the card.  Thankfully I was able to stamp the "hello" and not have it come out looking strange!
