Midnight Ride

Hello and Merry Christmas everyone!  Boy, it has been awhile since I last posted, lol!  I made a couple of things and one of them will be shared the day after Christmas, but mostly I have just been doing other things.  The last few years I have tried to make some kind of mixed media/Tim Holtz inspired Christmas decor piece.  The one I had this year is pretty simple in comparison to some I have made, but I really like how it turned out.  Let's have a look.

When I first saw the Forest Background die from Simon Says Stamp I knew I wanted to use it to make a scene with Santa flying across the sky with his reindeer.    Just a few days ago I finally got it finished.  It wasn't hard to make, but as I stated in my intro I just had other things going on.  I had watercolored some watercolor cardstock using Forest Moss distress ink and used that piece for my forest.  I painted a Tim Holtz distress square box with a dark blue pain and splattered the sides with Simon Says Stamp white splatter medium.  I then cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to fit the front of the box, ink blended on Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot distress inks and let it dry.   The background and the die cut treelines were the splattered with the white splatter medium as well.  I adhered the blue background to the box using multi matte medium and the tree lines using varying heights of foam squares to add some depth.  Santa and reindeer (a Tim Holtz/Sizzix die that was a freebie from SSS a few years ago) was die cut from a dark gray cardstock three time, layered and then splattered with white splatter medium as well.  The crescent moon is included in the Santa die set so I die cut that from silver glitter cardstock.  I adhered the moon and Santa with glue.  The finishing touch was the sentiment sign from the Idea-ology Christmas 2024 baseboards and transparencies set.  I attached the sign using texture paste.  I embedded three little ivory balls into the paste, as well.  When the paste was mostly set up I did add a little bit of Snowfall grit paste for an icy look to the sign.

Going to add this to the Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge of sparkle and shine.  My moon is sparkly.  And to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge of add a sentiment.   I'm also going to add this to the Die Cut Diva's December challenge of Christmas/Winter.  Thank you to my bloggy friend, Linda, for mentioning the challenge!

Thanks for stopping by and have a very, very, very Merry Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here in the US celebrating!  I'm popping in with my second Birch Press Design post for the month.  Can't believe that we are less than a month away from Christmas.  Thanksgiving coming so late this year really speeds things up doesn't it?   Since Christmas is so close I thought I would share a Christmas card today.  Let's have a look.

I started my card by picking out two shades of red to use with the new Rosebud Arch Contour Layers die set.  Even though this die is a more spring-like die I thought it would be lovely used for a Christmas card.  I did also use two shades of green for the stems.  I die cut everything and adhered all the pieces together.  I did add a bit of sparkle to the buds with some Rock Candy glitter.  I love that stuff!   The Merry Christmas was die cut from the darker of the two reds three times, layered together and then adhered to the shadow layer that was die cut from white cardstock.

I wanted something a little more for the background so I decided to pull out my Herbarium Layering die set.  At first I was going to use layer A to emboss the background, but then decided that I would do a little hot foiling with it.  I used silver matte foil and I love the pretty background it provides to the card.  Fun fact:  I have NEVER actually used all of the Herbarium layers together on a card!  I have only used the top layer for embossing and now hot foiling!  Need to use all the layers together soon.

With all the pieces completed it was time to put everything together.  The Rosebud Arch creates the perfect spot for a sentiment, even one as large as the Merry Christmas.   Well, that is it for me.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!  Going to add this to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge of anything goes.

Wise Men Still Seek Him...

Popping in with a card that I made with the Simon Says Stamp Wise Men Still Seek Him die and a very old Hero Arts stamp set called Heavens Rejoice.   I made a card using the die and another Hero Arts stamp set that came out at the same time several years ago and decided I wanted to make another for Christmas.  I never gave anyone the first card I made, and I may keep this one, too!  Take a look.

The card is very simple as you can see.  I pulled out my favorite red cardstock, Cherry Cobbler, from Stampin Up! and die cut a piece with a rectangle die and the Wise Men Still Seek Him die.  I left all the words in place and added washi tape to the back to keep them in place.   I placed the piece in my stamp positioning tool and stamped the three wisemen and the star using Cherry Cobbler ink.  Then I die cut the words from additional Cherry Cobbler cardstock and gold mirror cardstock.  Those were layered on top of the panel and I finished with a little mirror star on the stamped star.

I hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas with family and loved ones.  Wishing you a safe and peaceful season.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
