make it monday + colourQ

Hello friends!!   Yesterday I got a chance to make a few cards (haven't done that in a while!) and one of the cards was for this week's PTI Make it Monday "double backgrounds" and ColourQ.    The double background stamping technique is a real fun one, but I think next time I use it I won't be using two shades of blue... one of which is really dark!  Anywhoo... here is my card:

I don't have a lot of the PTI background stamps, maybe about 4 sets.  Two of the sets are Polka Dot Basics 2 and Background Basics Text Style and that is what I used.  I started by doing a test run of the colors I was going to use for the double background stamping, Marina Mist and Midnight Muse, to see how they would look at full strength and decided that stamping off first and then stamping the background was the way to go.  So I stamped the polka dots using Marina Mist, inking and then stamping off once before stamping on my cardstock.   I then stamped the text image following the same routine.  Even though I toned down the inks through second generation stamping I still find the background a little too busy... sigh!  Anyway...the flower and leaf images are from Rosie Posie and were stamped using So Saffron and Old Olive.  The sentiment is from Boutique Borders: Happy Birthday and was stamped in black on a fishtail flag.

Hello friends!!  Tuesday is here so that means time for a new CASology challenge!!  I was completely amazed by all the gorgeous cards that showed up in the gallery... you all definitely proved you had the "midas touch" when it comes to adding gold to your projects!!  This week we are getting in the great outdoors with a "campy" cue word, hee hee!   If you haven't figured it out, the cue word is "camp".   All the details can be found here.   Our guest designer this week is the super talented, Lisa!   And we have a great sponsor... Going to be honest... this was another difficult cue word for me.  I tend to be way too literal when it comes to cue words and the first thing I thought was "shoot, I don't have any camp related stamps" and I kinda panicked.  Then I took a mental step back and reminded myself that the cue word is just that... a cue to get you to think outside the box.    And I stated thinking about what are some of the things you see when you see when you go camping.  So after trying a few ideas I settled on die cutting some leaves from white cardstock using my SU!/Sizzix Autumn Accents die and adhering them to a white cardstock base.  Before adhering one leaf I stamped it using the corresponding stamp from the SU! set Wonderfall.   A fishtail flag was die cut from white cardstock, stamped with the sentiment and adhered to the card.  A bow was created using light green baker's twine and adhered and I was done.

Welcome Bryna Kate!!

Hello friends!!  Today I have a special card to share.  You see Melissa, the creator of CASology and all around fabulous team leader, gave birth to her little girl yesterday Sunday, July 28th.  As the post title indicates her name is Bryna Kate!   As a way to welcome little Bryna and congratulate Melissa the CASology design team have decided to have a little baby shower linky party for them and you can play along!  Just make a welcome baby/congratulations card and add it to the linky list.  The list will remain open for three weeks so there will be plenty of time to post a card or two.  All the details can be found here.

When I found out that Melissa's little girl was here and that we were going to do the linky party I knew immediately that I wanted to use my PTI Bundle of Love set.  And since this is for a little girl I had to go with all pink.  I used SU!'s Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose inks, Regal Rose ribbon and Pretty in Pink cardstock.  Because of the way I designed the front of the card there wasn't a place for the sentiment so I completed the interior of the card with the sentiment.  I punch the bottom of the cardstock with my EK Success scalloped border punch and then added little hearts in Regal Rose.   And I just had to finish things off with some pretty little pink sequins.

a sunny hello... beat the heat with penny black

Hello friends!!  Here with a fun little card that I made using the super cute Penny Black set "Summer Fun".   If you haven't been the to Penny Black blog you really need to because there is a fun new challenge/contest going on.  All the fun started on July 22nd and will run through August 5th.  What's in it for you???  Well... three prize packages worth $25.00 each!!  All the information can be found here so make sure you check it out!

 

For my card I decided to use the cute little palm tree/hammock image from the "Summer Fun" (30-107) set, along with the sentiment "a sunny hello".  I first started by die cutting a tag using the small tag from the Penny Black Tagged die set (51-007).  I then stamped the image on the tag using Memento's Tuxedo Black ink and colored the image, except for the sand portion, with Copic markers.  I applied some clear drying glue to the sand portion and then sprinkled on some sand colored Flower Soft and let it dry.   I cut a piece of white cardstock and then embossed it using a piece of burlap... a quick and easy way to create subtle texture on a project.  A strip of burlap ribbon was cut to use as a mat for a piece of patterned paper from the PB Madison 6x6 paper pad and both pieces were adhered to the cardstock piece.  The tag was attached using foam dimensionals and a bow made from twine added to the tag.  The entire piece was adhered to a kraft card base and I was done.

PTI July Blog Hop... sweet life

Hello friends!!  I planned ahead, again, this month and got my card for the July PTI blog hop done... Yay!!  This month the hop is all about color combos and every single one is gorgeous!

I recently purchased the PTI set The Sweet Life.  And in retrospect I'm wondering why I didn't purchase it sooner as it is just gorgeous!  Since I had just purchased it I was anxious to ink it up and the blog hop was the perfect chance.   Initially I was going to use the Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst, Limeade Ice and New Leaf combo, but when I realized I needed three shades of ink for the flowers I had to make a different pick.  After looking at all my inks I settled on the Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise, Lemon Tart, Limeade Ice and New Leaf combo.   For my inks I used the following:  Hero Arts Orange Soda, Butter Bar and Green Hills, Stampin Up! So Saffron and Memento Pear Tart.   The layout for the card is based on the current Sketchbook Saturday Sketch.  I partially embossed one side of the cardstock with the Sizzix Modern Wallpaper embossing folder and then stamped the sentiment in black ink.  The flowers and leaves were adhered using foam dimensionals and then sequins in yellow and two shades of green were added.   As my little guy said today "easy peasy, lemon squeezy"!

CCC #54... choose beauty

Hello friends!!  Tuesday is here, again, and that means time for a new CASology challenge.  Last week we kept things cool, but now we are looking for that "midas" touch because our cue word is "gold".   Our guest designer this week is the super talented Hannelie who definitely has the midas touch when it comes to card making!  All the details can be found on here.

I recently received some new Hero Arts stamps and one of the sets has a couple of feather images in them.  Feathers seem to be a trend right now and so I decided to make my card using one of the images.  I stamped the image twice on my cardstock using Delicata Golden Glitz ink and then a third one on scrap cardstock and trimmed it out.  The edges were edged with a bit more of the Golden Glitz ink and then adhered to the cardstock piece on top of the stamped images.  Some notices were cut in the sides of the cardstock piece, twine was wrapped around and tied in a bow.  Finally the sentiment, from another Hero Arts set, was stamped using black ink.  I distressed the edges a bit and then adhered the piece to my kraft card base.  Easy peasy.

butterfly thank you...

Hello friends... Sunday afternoon is winding down in my part of the world.  Hope everyone had a nice weekend.  Here with a card that I made for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch challenge, as well as the current Dynamic Duos challenge. 

 

When I saw the CTS sketch I almost went with hexagons, but decided that I didn't want to be that literal, lol!   Tried a few ideas, but didn't like any of them so finally settled on butterflies.  Turns out that butterflies are the "dessert" option for Dynamic Duos!  I used the SU! sets Papillion Potpourri and Because I Care.  Making the butterflies was pretty easy since I bought the butterfly punch that matches several of the stamps in the set.  Added the sequins to the bodies, mounted then, stamped the sentiment and I was done.  Love quick and easy cards, don't you??    Still in a bit of a card making funk, but hoping to get another card made after dinner... we shall see!

Wonderful Christmas...

Hello friends!!  Saturday has arrived and that means a new Less is More challenge.  This week Chrissie and Jen are asking us to use a handmade flower on our project.   So many different directions you could go in with this one.  As I contemplated what I could possibly make for the challenge I settled on paper piecing and I had the perfect stamp to use... Penny Black's Christmas Star.

I stamped the flower in watermark ink on red and green designer papers from Stampin Up!, applied black embossing powder and then heat set.  The flowers were then trimmed out and the green version was cut apart so that I could arrange the pieces as leaves behind the red flower.   Since Christmas Star is a Christmas stamp (although I have used it to create non-Christmas type flowers) I continued the Christmas theme and used a gorgeous Penny Black Christmas sentiment.  The flower was adhered to the cardstock piece and a green sequin was added to the center and a few more underneath the sentiment.  I just love the glossy shine of the black embossing against the red and green papers.

live in the moment...

Hello friends.... its summer time and the cardmaking is sporadic, lol!!  Lately I have not really been in the mood to make anything which is really unusual for me.  I tried making something the other day and just had to give up.  So with the arrival today of lots of brand new Hero Arts stamps via FedEx I thought I would try making something and came up with this card for the current Colour Q challenge:

 

Stamps are from the following Hero Arts sets:  My Notebook and All the Time.  I decided to keep it simple and just use this sort of brushstroke image from the set and stamp it using all the ColourQ colors.  I subbed in Memento's Rhubarb Stalk, Hero Arts Soft Pool and PTI's Simply Chartreuse for the Bermuda Bay, Raspberry Ripple and Lucky Limeade colors.  Soft Pool is a little bluer than Bermuda Bay, but I think it does the job fairly well.  The sentiment was stamped using black ink and I added a few rhinestones to finish things off.  Not super creative, but I like it just the same.

CCC #53... chillax

Hey friends!!   Tuesday is here and that means a new CASology challenge!  With the summer heating up we have decided that things need to be "cool"ed down a bit, hee hee!  Yep... our cue word this week is "cool" and I know that there will be some really "cool" projects posted in the CASology gallery!   Our guest designer this week is the very talented, Tracy!!  All the challenge details can be found here.

When I saw the cue word I just kept thinking about the movie "Despicable Me" and how in the movie the main character Gru uses the term "chillax" and wanted to make a card using it.  So I pulled out my MFT High Rise lower case alphabet, my swiss dot embossing folder and got to work.  I first embossed the top half of the card with the swiss dot folder to make it sort of look like snow.  I then used a ruler and drew a line approximately 1/4" from the bottom of the card stock piece and lined up all the letters.   To keep the letters in place I use a piece of washi tape as it is not too sticky and easy to remove.  So for everyone out there who has rolls of washi tape and aren't sure what to do with them, you can use them with your dies!!   After all the letters were die cut I mounted the piece on a PTI blueberry sky cardstock base and then added some sequins.

Hello friends... our fabulous warm, sunny weather continues... YAY!  Yesterday was my kind of perfect summer day:  sunny and not too hot.   Have a card that I made for several challenges:  Dynamic Duos, CAS(E) this Sketch and Case Study. 

The Dynamic Duo's color combo this week is Sahara Sand and Pink Pirouette... a soft and pretty combo absolutely perfect for the sketch this week at CTS.   I pulled out several MFT dies and one of my favorite MFT sets, Pretty Poppies, and got to work.  I inked up the script border image from the set using Hero Art's Wet Cement ink and then lightly stamped it on my cardstock.   The frame die cut was created using two of the smaller Designer Labels 3 Stax.  Because of the way the MFT dies come I had to first cut the large image and then cut out the center of the image.   The fishtail flag was die cut and stamped with a sentiment from Pretty Poppies also using wet cement and then adhered to the frame.  The flower was die cut using the Poppies & Leaves die set and then stamped with the corresponding flower image from Pretty Poppies.  A sparkly pink button and rhinestone embellishment was added to the flower and then the piece was adhered to the frame.  The entire piece was adhered to a Sahara Sand card base.   The similarities between this week's Case Study challenge and the sketch from CTS I decided that I would pop this into Case Study, as well.

Hello friends!!  Happy weekend!  Wanted to say thanks to everyone who wished me a speedy recovery from my migraine.  Thankfully it was gone by the next day.  Now.. on to my card for this week's LIM challenge.   This week the challenge is the one layer challenge and to add a bit of a twist Chrissie and Jen have asked us to make a one layer card that is not square or rectangular.

I don't know about you, but I have a lot of different dies.  Many of which would work for this challenge, but I decided to use one of my favorite set of Spellbinders dies, Label 21.  Not sure why, but I just love the shape of that set... kinda reminds me of an old fashioned keyhole.  Next step... picking out the stamps to use.  I settled on one of my Penny Black stamp sets, Fancy Flowers (30-123).   I die cut my card and then stamped the image I chose using Memento Tuxedo Black.  The image was then colored with Copic markers (E33, E37, E39, V12, V15, V17 & YG03.  To ground the image I added a bit of grass and then finished the card off with the sentiment.

Hello friends!!   Happy Wednesday!!  Hope your week is going well... yesterday was hot, hot, hot, but I had a migraine and wasn't able to enjoy any of it.  Even had to turn down an opportunity to hang out at the pool of a local country club with my sister!  So.. was looking forward to the migraine being gone and enjoying some sun on Wednesday and what happens??? It gets cold and cloudy!!!  Ugh!!!  Anyway... despite the fact that I had a migraine I was able to get a card started that I finished this morning.   This card is for the current ColourQ challenge and for Chupa's Sketchbook Saturday sketch.

I have been playing along with Sketchbook Saturday for quite sometime now and since this is Chupa's 100th sketch I definitely had to make something using the sketch.  I recently purchased PTI's Happiness in Bloom set and tried to make a card for Sketchbook Saturday sketch #99 with it, but it just wasn't working.  This time, however, I had a different (and better) outcome!  I decided to go a little bit outside my box and combine dry embossing with washi tape for the two block elements in the design.  I partially embossed the top portion white cardstock piece with my Swiss Dot embossing folder and then to keep some continuity to the design used black polka dot washi tape for the bottom portion.  The flowers were die cut, stamped and then Ice Stickles were added to the centers.  The leaves were cut from green cardstock and then stamped with the leaf image.   I just love the main sentiment that comes in the Happiness in Bloom set because it reminds me of my favorite saying:  "We do not remember days, we remember moments".  Overall I'm pretty darn happy with how the card turned out.

Hello friends!!  Sorry I'm late with my CASology post!  I spent time on Monday afternoon getting it ready only to find out that it did not get saved!!  YIKES!!!  Anywhoo...I'm here now!  The new cue word is neon... lots of fun directions you can go in with that one.  And we have a super talented guest designer, Shirley, as well as a great sponsor, Avery Elle.  All the info can be found here.

Mixed media is all the rage right now and I have seen lots of really fun projects made using mixed media.  Unfortunately, it is a trend that I will not be following as I don't have the necessary space to make a mess and be able to leave it while things dry.  But I can take a little bit of that trend and make a slightly mixed media yet still CAS design.  To get that look I used a stamp set from My Favorite Things called Distressed Background Blocks.  I stamped the background on my cardstock using Memento Dandelion ink, inked the edges and then distressed with a distressing tool.  I used the same background stamp on the fishtail flag, as well as the little circle.  The word "hi" was die cut using the MFT Happy Hellos die-namics.  I used the Dynamic Duos color combo of bright yellow and bright green so I will be popping the card into that challenge.

Hello friends!!  Happy weekend... popping in with a card I made for the current Less is More challenge (shades of grey) that uses the current sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch. 

I turned the sketch on it's side to make it work with my Penny Black "in a row" die.   I have been dying (hee hee) to use this particular die ever since it arrived in my mailbox and the current CTS was the perfect opportunity! The sentiment is also from Penny Black, (learn, live, hope - 4312F).  Speaking of Penny Black make sure you check out the blog this weekend.  Guest designer Wida Miller is providing a ton of CAS inspiration using PB stamps.   I started my card by stamping the sentiment on a piece of white cardstock using Memento's London Fog ink.  The "in a row" image was die cut from Stampin' Up!'s basic grey cardstock and adhered using tiny pieces of foam dimensionals.  A scattering of grey sequins was added, the piece adhered to the card base and I was done.  Love, love, love how this card turned out... crisp, white and CAS!

Hello friends!    Hope all is well in your part of the world.   As I write this post the 4th of July is almost over in my part of the USA.  Hubby and kids our out back blowing things up (which is not allowed in our city, but happens anyway!) and the dog is freaking out.  Will be so happy when it is all over.  While all this was going on I did manage to make a card for a couple challenges:  ColourQ and Sketchbook Saturday.  

As I tried to figure out what to make using the Sketchbook Saturday sketch I initially thought I would use the PTI set Happiness in Bloom, but tried as I might I just couldn't make it work.  So, I decided to pull out my Reverse Confetti set Peacock Pretties and use that instead.  Not super happy with how the card turned out, though.  I think that has to do with the fact that while I had the desire to make a card I just really didn't have the necessary creativity to make it a great card.   Oh well...  Since I used Reverse Confetti stamps for the card I will (just for the fun of it...) link it up to this week's Fetti Finds.  I have to say that as I was trimming out the second feather I had the following thought:  "boy, it sure would be nice if Jen (the owner of Reverse Confetti) decided to make a die that matched the feather"!

Hello friends!!!  Happy Tuesday!!  Hope all of our Canadian friends had a wonderful Canada Day! Fourth of July is just a few days away for those of us in the USA and in honor of that special holiday our cue word this week is "fireworks".  I know that there will be all kinds of fun and explosive (hee hee) cards posted in the gallery this week!  And did you see???   We have two new fabulous designers joining the team:  Gillian and Kimberly... YAY!!  Our special guest designer this week is the super talented Jenny!!!   We also have a sponsor this week... all the fun details can be found here.

So... need to be upfront about this week's cue word.  I was afraid that I wouldn't even be able to complete a card for the challenge.  I have absolutely no fireworks related stamps... NOT.A.ONE!  What to do, what to do?  I found a stamp that I thought would work, but when I got down to stamping with it the results were well... YUCK!!   In to the recycling it went.  Put on my thinking cap and BING... an idea hit.  When two people fall madly, passionately in love at some point you may hear them talk about how there were "fireworks" during that fateful first encounter.  So... how to make my idea work?   I combined a Hero Arts background stamp (Radiant Banner) and a stamp from the MFT set Lovey Dovey Sentiments.  To keep things CAS the background was inked with VersaMark watermark ink, stamped on the cardstock, iridescent embossing powder applied and heat set.  This creates a nice background with just a bit of sparkle.   The sentiment was stamped in SU!'s Real Red and then trimmed out.  The background piece was trimmed down, the heart attached with foam dimensionals and then the piece was adhered to the card base.   The final touch... some vintage red sequins in various sizes.

Hello friends!!  Did you see all the new dies that Penny Black debuted last week???  If you didn't you need to check out the PB blog because they are absolutely yummy!!!   And while you are checking out the new dies you can check out all the fun projects the PB design team has made using products from the Twinery!   The design team will be posting projects all week and if you leave a comment you have a chance to win a yummy prize provided by the Twinery!!  Today I have a little card that I made using one of the new dies... a super fun one called "dots".  I paired this die up with the current sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch and the Dynamic Duo's color combo of grey and your choice.  I went with yellow. 

I started out my card by trying a new technique that I saw on Splitcoaststampers.  The technique involved using masking or painters tape to create a inked background.   We don't have any painters or masking tape, but I do have lots of washi tape and it worked perfectly!  Simply tear off a piece of washi tape, ink up the sticky side, apply to the card stock, burnish a bit and then pull off the tape.  What is left behind is a cool sort of grungy looking border.  I die cut basic grey card stock using the "dots" die and adhered it to the card front using tiny pieces of foam dimensionals.   The Penny Black background stamp "Paisly Outline" was inked up with yellow ink, stamped on a scrap piece of white paper and a butterfly punched out.  A grey button was added to the center of the butterfly and then the butterfly was attached to the die cut piece.  Finished things off with the sentiment from the Penny Black set "foliage fancy" in black ink.
