happy birthday...

Hello friends!!  Happy Friday (if it is still Friday in your part of the world!)!  Have a card I made for the current Cloud9 Blog Hop.   The Cloud9 Blog Hop was set up to celebrate WPlus9Design stamps and since I have a few sets (as in exactly four!)I have wanted to play along.   This month's inspiration photo is just beautiful and presented some problems for me when it came to putting together a card.  None of the sets I own have any kind of large star shapes in them, but the Woodgrain Silhouettes Additions set has these leaf images that are kinda star-like (yep... I'm stretchin' it, hee!).  The layout is based on Chupa's current Sketchbook Saturday sketch.

The color scheme I pulled from the photo is cream, black, kraft and silver.  I stamped the large leaf image on kraft cardstock using cream ink and then stamped a second image, trimmed it out and adhered it over the top of the first image.  I then added some silver rhinestones to each leaf.  A strip of silver cardstock was punched and adhered to the kraft piece and then the piece was wrapped with black ribbon.  To bring in the musical aspect of the aspect of the photo I adhered some Tim Holtz music tissue tape to cream cardstock and die cut it with a MFT Fishtail Flag Stax die.  The sentiment (from Hero Arts) was stamped with black ink and then die cut with the same fishtail flag die.  A small leaf was stamped with VersaMark ink, silver embossing powder was applied, heat set, trimmed out and a rhinestone applied.  The banners were adhered together along with the silver leaf and adhered to the piece.  Then the entire piece was adhered to a cream card base.

Thanks for stopping by...

its your day to....

hello friends!  wow... where has the week gone?  can't believe it is thursday already.  tomorrow i'm going to be volunteering in my little one's class for the first time this school year.  should be interesting to see how he acts while mommy is in the room!!  anywhoo...

here is a little card i made for the current colourQ challenge.  it was a nice surprise to check the colourQ blog on tuesday to see what the new combo was and to find that i had been crowned colourQueen for challenge #156.  i was so pleased with how that card turned out and hopefully it will make whoever receives it smile as i sent it off last week to operation write home.  this is kinda funny, but i had nearly completed work on my card for this week's combo when i realized that i was using the same exact stamp set that i used for challenge #156.... wplus9 design's woodgrain silhouettes.  i love that set and must admit that i was influenced to use it again by the super talented chupa.  i had been on her blog checking out the current sketchbook saturday sketch (i used it for the layout) and saw the lovely card she had made using the same set.   i must also admit that i was a bit perplexed as to how i would make these colors work and originally thought i would make a halloween card, but so glad i decided not to go that route.  the sentiment is from a hero arts set called many birthday messages.

thanks for stopping by....

fall colors....

hello friends!!  fall is here and i have a little card that i made using some lovely fall colors found in the current colourQ challenge.  the layout for this card is based on the current sketchbook saturday sketch.  and since i have used fall colors and leaves i'm going to be entering this into the current timeless tuesday challenge, as well.

the stamps i used are from the wplus9 design stamp sets woodgrain silhouettes & woodgrain silhouettes additions.  both sets contain solid images of leaves in several sizes that fit perfectly with the idea i had in mind for my card.  the largest leave is actually part of a spray of two leaves, but i was able to ink up just one leaf and then stamp it using the pumpkin pie ink.  the other leaves were stamped using rich razzleberry ink and versamagic pumpkin spice chalk ink.  the sentiment from the flourishes zinnias set was stamped using latte chalk ink.  i added a rhinestone to each leaf for a little bit of shine.

thanks for stopping by....

I Cherish....

Hey there!!   Here with a card for the current Flourishes challenge.  I haven't done a Flourishes challenge is ages, but that is all going to change!  I'm determined to participate in the weekly Timeless Tuesday challenge on a more regular basis!  This week the challenge hostess is the super talented Maki Jones and she has challenged us to have a bird somewhere on your project.  The only Flourishes set I have that contains a bird image is "Humming Along" so I pulled it out and got to work.

The layout for the card is from this week's Sketchbook Saturday sketch.  I did have to tweak it a bit... moving the image from one side of the card to the other to accommodate the little hummingbird.   I wasn't too sure if the card was going to turn out the way I hoped it would and so I was pleasantly surprised that when I got it done that it did!! Yay!!!   The woodgrain image is from WPlus9Designs Woodgrain Silhouettes set.  I stamped it using Memento Angel Pink and then stamped the floral image on top using Tuxedo Black.  The image was colored with Copic markers (YG03, YG06, R81 & R83).  The bird was colored with W1, W3 & B00.  He was then trimmed out and some Old Paper Distress ink was applied.  I inked the edges of the main panel as well and then I adhered the little bird with pop dots.   The sentiment is from the Flourishes Gerbera Daisies set.    Because I used a friendship sentiment  and flowers on the card I will also be popping this into this week's Our Creative Corner challenge to make a card for a friend.

Less is More - Stripes

For my ODBD Shining the Light post, please click here.

Hey there!!!  Back with my card for the brand new Less is More challenge.  This week it is a one layer card challenge and we are to use stripes on our card.   Now... when I started out thinking about what I was going to do I had originally planned to use my PTI Distressed Stripes set.  But after doing a test run I didn't like how things were looking using the various stripes in the set.  I had planned to pair it with an image from the WPlus9Design set Woodgrain Silhouettes set.  As I was looking at the Woodgrain Silhouettes set I realized the perfect image for the challenge was right there!  However... I will admit that I'm stretching the idea of stripes a bit!

So I inked up the long woodgrain image from the set using SU!'s Certain Celery and stamped it across the card as you see.  I then stamped the floral image over that using SU!'s Pear Pizzaz.   The sentiment was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black.   After I finished the card I went to take my photos of it and as I was choosing which one to use I realized that something was definitely missing on the card.  I needed some rhinestones in the upper corner to complete the eye-pleasing design triangle!  Once I did that things looked much better.   My card layout is based on the current Sketchbook Saturday sketch.

Thanks for stopping by....

for you...

Hey there.... another dreary day in Washington state, but a good day to stay inside and make cards!  Have a card for a couple of challenges:  CR84FN (color combo) and CASE Study.   The muse this month at CASE Study is Julie Lacey who has an amazing clean style.  When I saw her card this week I just had to play along.

Because I just really loved the overall design of Julie's card I basically followed it to a "T" and changed just a few little elements.    All stamps are from WPlus9Design (Design Basics:  Backgrounds 1 & Woodgrain Silhouettes).

Gerbera Daisies....

Hi Ya!  Finally got a chance this week to take part in a CASE Study challenge!  I have wanted to for the longest time, but by the time I get around to thinking about making something the time to enter is up.   But this week I'm finally getting the chance.  I'm also going to be entering this card in the current Flourishes challenge to use the word "friend" on your card.

The brand new CASE Study muse is Dawn Woleslagle the incredibly talented stamper and the owner/designer of WPlus9Design Stamps.   You can see Dawn's amazing card that we are to CASE here.  For my card I decided to use the Flourishes Gerbera Daisies set.  I colored the flowers with the following Copic markers:  YR02, YR07, YR09, YG93, YG95, Y21, Y17 and Y38.  For the tag I used the Flourishes Country Charm Labels set and matching Spellbinder Grommet Tag dies.  The image was stamped using VersaMagic Pumpkin Spice ink and the sentiment was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black.   To create the ribbon/tag treatment took a bit of doing, but I really love how it turned out.

Thanks for taking a peek...  and if you are interested in some really yummy new stamps Dawn is sneak peaking her new releases right now!

Just a Note...

A couple of cards today for the One Layer Wednesday challenge.  Jennifer put forth the challenge for us to use anything music related on our cards.   Immediately I thought of using either my Hero Arts Musicial Background cling and/or the Hero Arts Musical Clef set for my card.   Then I remembered my long neglected WPlus9Design set Just A Note and I decided to make two cards for the challenge.

First up is the card I made using the Hero Arts Musical Clef set.  I stamped the music image from the set in the bottom right corner of the card using Ranger's Weather Wood distress ink.  I then overstamped the clef image using PTI's True Black ink.   The "just a note" sentiment is from Savvy Stamps and was perfect for the card.  I added a few grey pearls.  Initially I had put the pearls in the upper left corner, realized how strange that looked and moved them.

On the second card I used the WPlus9Design Just a Note set.  Again, I stamped the music image in the bottom right corner using Weather Wood  and then stamped the two part sentiment using True Black.  For this card I decided to add a little bit of color in the form of the green/white bakers twine and a few green gems.

Thanks for taking a peek...

Birthday Stars

The current City Crafters Challenge (CCCB 19) is to make a project incorporating stars.   Since my nephew is turning 10 soon, I thought I would make a birthday card for him using stars.  I got out my Hero Arts set "Galaxy of Stars", some papers from Fancy Pants (The Daily Grind) and some SU! inks and got to work.  I used the current sketch from Taylored Expressions (TESC126) for the layout. The sentiment is from the really cute WPlus9Design Studio set The Birds & The Bees.

Thanks for taking a peek... have a great day!

Simple Color....

Today, I'm still on my simplicity kick.  This time with color, though.  Again, I have two cards for two different color challenges, but both using several colors in common.  The first card is for ColourQ (#47), one of my favorite color challenges.  I haven't played along the last few weeks for various reasons.  The major one being I didn't have any of the new SU! colors.  I used the sketch from a challenge blog that I have yet to have a chance to participate in:  Pals Paper Arts, PPA57.   It was just what I need to finally get my card put together since I was really stumped as to how to use the striking color combo (Poppy Parade, More Mustard, Basic Grey & Bermuda Bay) put forth by Arielle (actually, that happens to me alot!).  For this card I used a new SU! set called Just Believe.

My second card is also for a color challenge called Color Cue put forth by the very talented Dawn of WPlus9Design Studio.  Her colors this month:  Gold, Red, Aqua & White/Cream.  Now SU!'s Bermuda Bay could be taken for an aqua color, but because it tends more toward the green end, I went with SU!'s Tempting Turquoise because when I think "aqua" I think more of a blue color.  I also used Dawn's fantastic stamp set Woodgrain Silhouettes, one of my most favorite sets, and the current sketch from Clean & Simple, FTL105.  I probably should have stamped the leaf image a bit more off the cardstock to give it better balance....  Well, live and learn.

So, thanks for taking a peek... I hope you have a wonderful day!

(PS... there are no graphics for the color challenges or the sketch challenges because I didn't want a big, long post.  Appropriate links have been provided.)

Color Cue #6 - I {heart} U

A little card I put together using the current colors put forth by the very talented Dawn of WPlus9Design fame, Color Cue #6.  She always picks some of the loveliest color combos for her challenges.   If you haven't checked out Dawn's stamp sets yet, you really need to get yourself over to the WPlus9Design Studio website and take a look.  Dawn is releasing four new stamp sets this weekend.  Her projects are out of this world!

It Was One of Those Weekends

Where pretty much nothing went the way I wanted to it.  On Saturday I had hoped to make a card for one of my favorite color challenges, ColourQ, but instead I was literally flat on my back for most of the day with one of the worst migraines I have EVER had!   It sucked!!  So, I got nothing done.... a big fat NOTHING!!  Thank goodness I had waiting in the wings a card already made for another one of my favorite color challenges from the lovely and talent Dawn of WPlus9Design Studio, which is oddly enough is also called Color Cue!!  I just realized that!  Anyway, both color challenges are fantastic whichever one you decide to go with.  In fact, try both!!!   If you have not had a chance to purchase any of Dawn's wonderful stamp sets, please head to her store pronto (click either link above) and check thenm out.   For my card I used a set that Dawn debut last month called the Birds & the Bees.  What an adorable set!!!   And she just reveal two new sets for July... again, both super cute!

I hope that everyone in the US had a wonderful 4th of July weekend!  Heres to a better week, no migraines and lots of cardmaking.   Thanks for taking a peek!
