masculine birthday card

Hello!  A quick post to share a card that I made for the MFT sketch and color challenges.  When I saw the MFT sketch challenge I immediately thought of a set of triangle dies that I had purchased from MFT a few years ago with the intention of using them for masculine cards.  Of course, that didn't happen... until now, lol!  Card is pretty self-explanatory, right?  Lots of diecutting of triangles using the MFT colors and then arranging them to fit the sketch layout.  The sentiment is from the MFT Sending Sweet Celebration Wishes and was stamped using VersaFine CLAIR Morning Mist.  Also going to post this over at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge of anything goes.

Hello!  Popping in to share a card that I made for a few challenges:  MFT sketch challenge, the Paper Players challenge (into the woods) and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge (anything goes).    My youngest and I used to watch Finding Big Foot together and loved it so when MFT came out with the Beast Friends stamp set and die set  I had to get it.  It always makes me laugh when I see people leaving their yetis white because yetis have never been described as being white, but dark in color.  Anyway, I guess people think they are white because of the yeti from Monsters, Inc.!   I stamped the yetis with VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink on Canson watercolor paper and then colored them with distress inks in Gathered Twigs and Black Soot.  I then colored the trees with Forest Moss distress ink and their scarves in Chipped Sapphire and Crushed Olive.  After everything was dry, die cut and I started putting the card together I accidentally ruined one of my yetis and had to start over!  Thankfully it was easy to that done, but boy of boy you should have seen my face when I made my mistake, lol!  I used an MFT Inside Out stitched rectangle die to cut out a stencil and then inked up two rectangle with Tumbled Glass distress oxide ink on Tim Holtz woodgrain cardstock before arranging my two yetis and the trees.  I then stamped the sentiment from the set on vellum with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder from Ranger.   All die cutting done using my Gemini Jr.  Compensated affiliate links used where possible at not cost to you.

Thanksgiving and Christmas...

Hello!  Popping in with a Thanksgiving card, as well as a Christmas card.  First up is the Thanksgiving card that I will be adding to the following challenges:  CAS(E) this Sketch,  Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.   This card came about because I decided to die cut the fun wishbone die from the Spellbinders small die kit for October out of a piece of fall patterned paper that I had floating around.  Once that was done I had to build my card around it and boy was that hard!  Took me the better part of a day to get the right color combination.  Originally I had a lot of kraft cardstock involved, but things were just not working.  I brought in a green cardstock in the same color as the patterned paper and that seemed to make things work so much better.  One of the background ovals was die cut from an alcohol ink background that I created on some Yupo paper.   To create a little bit more interest in my card I embossed the green cardstock panel with some burlap.  I love the subtle interest that it brings to the card.

Now for my Christmas card.  This one is for the following challenges:  The Paper Players (colors), Time Out (colors) and MFT sketch challenge.   I have played along with an MFT sketch challenge in ages and I was determined to make something with the current super clean and simple sketch.  I almost went with stars (so original, lol!), but decided to pull out the beautiful Simply Snowflakes stamp set and the Layered Snowflakes die-namics dies.  After trimming down a piece of white cardstock per the sketch I stamped the snowflakes from the Simply Snowflakes in SU!'s Smoky Slate ink.   Then I die cut additional snowflakes from Poppy Parade and So Saffron cardstocks and layered them over the stamped snowflakes.   The sentiment from the Snowfall of Blessings stamp set was stamped in VersaFine CLAIR Nocturne.   The panel was finished by adding a thin strip of silver glitter cardstock and then adhering to a Smoky Slate cardstock base.  Love the unconventional colors for the snowflakes!

Hello!  Hope your week is off to a good start.  This week is teacher appreciation week and I put together a card for my son to give to his Spanish teacher.  Our elementary school has been fortunate to have this program and my son has been a part of it since kindergarten.   He will give this to her on Wednesday along with some flowers.  I used MFT sketch 383 for the layout and the since this is for a Spanish teacher I thought using the MFT Pinata die would be perfect.  I die cut the piñata pieces from some striped patterned paper and the main body from white cardstock.  I then layered up all the pieces.  The thanks is also an MFT die and was cut from bright blue cardstock as well as three more times from white and then all layered together.  The fishtail banner (from MFT) was diecut from the same cardstock as the thanks and addition patterned paper was used for the mini scalloped stitched rectangle die cut.  I layered up everything on a white die cut panel and then adhered it to a white cardstock base.

Hello!!  Did you make cards on World Card Making Day?  I did not, but since most of the challenges are still open today I made a couple of cards.  Sharing one right now that is for the MFT WCMD dies challenge, as well as the MFT color and sketch challenges.   Trying to figure out how to make the MFT colors and sketch work with the MFT dies that I have was a trick, but I think I made it work.  I should have die cut another set of flowers and stems, but it is too late now.  Still I do like how the card turned out overall.  The nice thing about this card is that it is pretty flat and I can add a stamped sentiment to it later.  Don't you love it when you can make one card that covers several challenges??? I do!!  Going to see if I can get something else made for one of the other MFT WCMD challenges... wish me luck, lol!!   Think I will pop this into the Simon Says Stamp World Card Making Day line up, as well.

Hello!!!  Wow... the week is almost over!!  I'm popping in with a card for several challenges:  MFT design superstar, MFT sketch challenge, SSS Wednesday challenge and Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge (watercoloring).   I am by no stretch of the imagination a coloring virtuoso, but I wanted to challenge myself to do some watercoloring and the MFT design superstar challenge was just the push I needed.  I got out my MFT Sweet Forest Friends stamps and dies and did some watercoloring.  I had to color the little fox twice because the first one didn't turn out so well, but I'm really pleased with my coloring since I hadn't really done any in quite some time.  After coloring up all my little critters with various ZIG markers I watercolored a panel of watercolor paper with a light blue ZIG and then part of  watercolor panel with two green ZIGs.  When dry both panels were die cut with the MFT Inside Out Stitched Round Rectangle dies.  I popped up the green portion on the blue background and then adhered the tree and the critters using more pop dots.  The sentiment was stamped on a scrap piece of watercolor paper that had been light colored with the same blue ZIG and then die cut with another MFT die.  I added a little bit of white baker's twine to finish things off.

Hello!!  Hope you week is off to a good start.  I have a card that I made for the current MFT sketch challenge.  Since it is pretty clean and simple I'm also going to add this to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge.   I recently bought the fun MFT stamp and die set Ocean Fun and have been wanting to make a card with it.   When I started the card I was just going to have simple windows, but decided to change the windows to shaker elements.  I inked up my background with Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers distress oxide inks.  I trimmed down my white cardstock panel and then die cut the windows using a MFT Inside Out Stitched Round rectangle die.  Using removable tape I positioned the panel so that I could stamp the little background images inside the windows.  I adhered the acetate to the panel and created my little shakers.  The jellies were stamped using Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers and then die cut them with the matching dies.  I used small pieces of the acetate to create little tabs to attached the jellies to the card.  This gives them a little bit of movement, but not as much as I had thought they would.  I think my acetate is too thick and thus too stiff.  Oh well... they still look cute.   I think I will also add this to the MFT design superstar challenge in the innovation category.  It isn't super innovative, but there will still be a chance to win $100 gc in the random draw.

Hello!!   A new sketch is up on the MFT challenge blog and I found some time to make a card using it along with the current colors for the MFT color challenge.  I will also be adding this to the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge of put a sentiment on it.   I still had the July MFT card kit and I wanted to make another card before I put things away.  This time I used the lovely script smile die from the kit long with the one of the large flowers and the leaves stamps and dies.  I stamped the flower using the coral color and the leaves using colors close to the Spearmint and Green Eyed Monster colors.  The smile was die cut from cardstock in a color as close as I could get to blueberry.  I did die cut the word three times and then adhered them together.  I used the soft gray cardstock to break things up a bit.  The strip and the rounded rectangle were die cut using the MFT Inside Out Stitched Rectangle dies.  After I layered everything up per the sketch I stamped the sentiment on vellum using watermark ink, heat set it with white embossing powder and then die cut it with the banner die (the free with $60 die set).  A panel of white cardstock was die cut, the rounded rectangle adhered to that and then everything was adhered to a coral cardstock base.  I love it when I can "kill two birds with one stone"!   I think I will also add this to the current Word Art Wednesday challenge.  ETA:  Today is the last day of MFT's Camp Create, part 2.  I have not had time to do any of the other "crafts", but since my card has lots of die cutting on it I will be adding it to today's "craft" of die cutting.  Adding this to the current Dies R Us challenge of anything goes.

Hey... stopping in with a card for the current MFT sketch challenge, as well as the current MFT color challenge.   I pulled out the beautiful MFT Sketchy Blooms Two stamp set and the fun MFT Friend die.  I stamped the flowers using the coral and teal colors from the MFT palette and then die cut the piece.  I die cut the friend from the gravel gray cardstock four times and then stacked them.  The letters were then adhered to the card front per the sketch.  I die cut coral and black cardstocks with an angled border die, layered them as you see and then adhered to the card front.  Finished things off by stamping the sentiment from the cute MFT set Sweet Forest Friends in MFT's Tropical Teal.  Super happy with how this turned out... especially getting all the letters in friend lined up perfectly!!

otterly great birthday... take 2

Hello!!  The weekend is upon us and I have a card to share.  Last week I made a card using the super cute MFT Otterly Love You stamp set.  I made the card for last week's MFT sketch challenge, but for some reason did not get it posted in the gallery... grrr!!  So When I saw this week's sketch I thought I would make another shaker card using the same set.  I used a different otter image, but I did use the same sentiment as I'm still in birthday card making mode, lol!  I also used a few other images from the set, but kind of covered them up with the shaker mix that I used.  I will also be posting this to the current MFT color challenge as I used those colors, again, for my card.  I have been practicing my watercoloring in an effort to get better at it.  I decided to give Bristol cardstock another try and had much better results with it.   I will also add this to the current Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge to use red, white and/or blue since I have used all three colors on my card.

Hello!!! Stopping in with a card that I made for several challenges:  MFT Wednesday Sketch challenge, Color Throwdown and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge.   I recently got some happy mail in the form of some new items from MFT and because I spent at least $60 I got this month's free die and it is absolutely gorgeous!!   I used it on my card today.  When I saw the new combo over at Color Throwdown I didn't think I would be able to play along because I was pretty certain I had nothing copper in my stash.   I soon discovered that I was wrong when I found some beautiful copper cardstock that had come with my September My Monthly Hero kit.  YAY!!  I die cut the rose, bud and stem from the copper cardstock and then three times from white cardstock.  I layered all the die cuts.  Because the die cuts are so delicate I used spray adhesive and it worked like a charm.  Once that was done I moved onto the rest of the card.  My happy mail also contained the beautiful Geometric Greenery stamp set.  I stamped two of the leaves from the set on watercolor cardstock with VersaMark, applied white embossing powder and then heat set.  Once that was done I used MFT's Tropical Teal, SU!'s Pumpkin Pie and PTI's Terra Cotta Tile to watercolor all the leaves.  I die cut a panel of woodgrain cardstock using the MFT Stitched Mini Scallop Rectangle Stax and then a panel of a neutral cardstock using an AJVD rectangle die. The sentiment (also from Geometric Greenery) was stamped on a banner that was die cut using an MFT Fishtail Flag Stax die that I also used to fishtail the other side of the die.  When the watercolor piece had dried I trimmed it down and the layered up all the elements pursuant to the sketch.  Initially I was concerned that this might look like a "hot mess", but I think it turned out rather nice.  Looking at my photo it does appear that my orange is yellow, but it is orange!

Hey friends!!  I have been a busy little crafter the last few days!  I have managed to make three cards and two of them involved watercoloring with my Zig Clean Color markers.   One of those card was is for the current MFT Wednesday sketch challenge and I will be posting here.  I will also be posting this to the Camp Create 2 Fabulous Foiling challenge, as well as Kathy's 30 day coloring challenge.   I started my card by stamping one of the poppy images from Delicate Pretty Poppies multiple times on some Ranger watercolor paper using VersaFine Vintage Sepia ink.  I then filled in some of the gaps with the little leaves from the same set also stamping in Vintage Sepia.  My mini MISTI helped me get good impressions on the watercolor paper.  I then colored all the images using the following colors:  light carmine red, carmine red, bright yellow, yellow and may green and a number 2 watercolor brush.  After some trial and error I have found a way to watercolor that works well for me and allows me to achieve the look I want.  Once all the images were colored I colored around them using light grey.  I also stamped another poppy and leaves on some scrap watercolor paper and colored them up.  Once they were done they were die cut with the matching dies.  I die cut my panel using the second largest MFT Inside Out Stitched Rectangle die.  The "hello" (also from MFT) was die cut from black cardstock and then using a foiling glue pen (pursuant to a technique that I saw Kimberly demonstrate on the MFT blog) I applied the glue to the lower half of the word, allowed it to dry for a minute and then applied the foil.  The foiling isn't perfect, but I do like how it turned out.  I die cut a few more of the hellos and then stacked them all for some additional dimension.  The sentiment is from the MFT set Amazing and was stamped using VersaFine Onyx Black and my mini MISTI.  I adhered the watercolored panel to a panel of light grey cardstock, added the die cut flower and leaves to finish things off.   I'm adding this to the current Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge:  floral and fauna.

Hey friends!!  Happy New Year!!  Did you stay up until midnight to ring in the new year??  I did not, lol!!  I was in bed and woke up for a few minutes at midnight because some neighbors were shooting off fireworks and then went back to sleep!  On new years day the hubs and I took the boys up to the Seattle waterfront.  Unfortunately the place we wanted to visit was closed so we had some lunch and then headed to the Boeing Museum of Flight.  All in all a very good start to the new year!  Well... I do have a card to share.  A little something that I made for the current ColourQ challenge and the current MFT Wednesday Sketch challenge. My take is a little stripped down, but I think you can still see the sketch in there, lol!  I used a combination of MFT stamps and dies and Precious Remembrance Shop stamps.  My all time favorite PRS set is DIY and I used elements from that to create the background on my panel.  The word "amazing" (from the MFT Amazing die set) was die cut from black cardstock 4 times, adhered together.  Since the A is actually separate from the rest of the word I was able to add a few loops of gold metallic thread behind it before adhering everything to the panel.  The sentiment is from the MFT Amazing stamp set.  Love the aqua, black, gold and white color combo... think I will be making something else using it!
