two cards... two seasons...

Hello!!  The weekend is winding down here in my neck of the woods and after spending the last few days running around more than I like I had some down time today.  I took advantage of that down and made a couple of cards.  One a fall design and the second a winter design... thus my blog title.  First up is the card with a fall design that uses the current layout from Freshly Made Sketches and the color combo from ColourQ.  I have tons of quilling papers and had not quilled in ages.  I decided that today I would pull out all my quilling supplies and use them on my card.  I created a little corner piece in the style of a sunflower using the dark brown and orange colors and some leaves using the turquoise color.  I die cut the banner from kraft cardstock and then adhered my quilled pieces.  The thanks was die cut from dark brown and dark turquoise cardstock.  I offset the turquoise behind the brown, adhered them together and then to the banner.  Some patterned paper in a darker orange and cream was adhered to my card base and then finished with the banner.  

 

The second card is my winter design.  Each month I check out the MFT monthly kit and finally in September I took the plunge and got the Snowflake Sparkle kit.  I used it to create my card for this week's MFT sketch challenge.  I die cut one of the larger snowflakes from the blue glitter paper included in the kit and then two smaller snowflakes from white and stamped them with the coordinating stamps in the MFT Blue Breeze and Tropical Teal inks included in the kit.  I cut the panel from white cardstock and then die cut the center with the largest die from the MFT Stitched Inside Out die set.  The outer part of the panel was adhered to a card base made with MFT Cornflower  cardstock and then the inner panel was adhered using foam dots.  The snowflake was layered on and I added the sentiment that was stamped on a MFT Stitched Fishtail Flag Stax.   I am absolutely loving all the snowflake images in this kit and can't wait to make something else with it!

Hello friends!!  Wednesday is here and that means time for a brand new colour challenge at Colour Me..!   The gallery was full of absolutely amazing projects last week!  I know there will be just as many amazing projects this week using the fun color combo of  Rich Razzleberry (dark berry), Island Indigo (teal), Cajun Craze (rust) and Crushed Curry (yellow).  All the challenge information can be found at the Colour Me..! blog.

For my card this week I decided to do some quilling.  I pulled out some SU! designer paper that corresponded with the colors and created a flower using a quilling die from Quilled Creations.  The leaves were also created using SU! designer paper.  The layout is based on last week's My Favorite Things Wednesday sketch.  The sentiment is from the Precious Remembrance Shop set Positive Thoughts.   Including a photo of a close up of the flower so you can see it a little bit better.

CCC #58 loving memories...

Hello friends!!  Happy Tuesday!  I made it through freshman orientation at my son's high school (which happens to be the high school I graduated from many, many years ago... Go Tigers!!) yesterday.  Still shaking my head a bit at the thought of having a child in high school... eeps!!  Anywhoo... I digress!!  It is Tuesday and that means time for a new CASology cue word.  This week the word is paper... so many different directions you can take this one in for sure!  And we have a fabulous sponsor this week... CC Designs, as well as a fabulous guest designer... none other than the amazingly talented Jenny from Crafting in the Country! 

For my card I decided to do some quilling.  About six months ago I decided to revisit the paper crafting technique of quilling.  I had done some quilling many years ago, but gave it up for other paper crafting pursuit.  Quilling is a very simple technique that involves taking thin strips of paper rolling them up using a slotted quilling tool.  Once you have rolled up the paper strip you remove the roll from the quilling tool and allow it to open up into a loosely coiled circle.  The end is adhered to the circle and the circle is shaped in to various different shapes like a teardrop or marquise.  The various shapes are then glued to cardstock to create many different things like flowers, butterflies, etc.  Recently quilling dies have appeared on the market that allow you to make different types of flowers.  I used the traditional quilling method to create the stem and leaves, as well as a set of new quilling dies to create the flower head.   Quilling requires very thin paper so the type of cardstock that most of us use for paper crafting won't work, but I discovered that some types of patterned papers are thin enough to use in a quilling tool.  The flower was made using traditional quilling paper, as well as patterned paper from the Penny Black Madison 6x6 pad.  Once all the pieces were created I arranged them on the cardstock piece and adhered them in place.  Lastly I added the sentiment (from Our Daily Bread Designs), rounded two corners and adhered the piece to the card base.
