ODBDSLC31 + JUGS53

Wow, I can't belive I haven't done any blogging since Sunday!  I have been making cards like a crazy woman, but I can't post any of them yet because I made them for my Hero Arts Win A Day on the blog that is coming up on October 26th!  I'm really excited about being featured on the Hero Arts blog and so glad that now I know when!

My card for today, though, is for two challenges:  JUGs53 and ODBDSLC31.  The amazing gals at JUGs are celebrating their one year anniversary, WOO HOO!!! If you have never tried out JUGs, you really need.  They always have fantastic challenges week after week!    The JUGs challenge is to make a card based on the lovely sketch that has been provided.  The ODBDSLC challenge is to make a card using "wings".   I used the ODBD sets Don't Worry & From Me to You for the card, along with some lovely DCWV Mariposa papers.

My card today is for ODBD's Shining the Light challenge and the current Flourishes challenge.   The requirements for ODBD's challenge were to use three of something.  I ended up using three designer papers and three different stamps.  The Flourishes challenge this week is a sketch challenge which was most helpful. I must acknowledge in my post that the lovely ladies over at ODBD's Shining the Light challenge have been so very sweet to me and picked my card TWO WEEKS in a row for the Shining the Light award!   Thanks, ladies!  You don't know how much that meant to me!   

For my card I used the following stamps:  Hero Arts Hydrangea (love it!!); Flourishes Gerbera Daisies (butterfly) and ODBD's Grow in Grace (verse).  The designer papers are from the DCWV mat stack Linen Closet.   Ink is courtesy of Close to My Heart (Bamboo) and Hero Arts (Soft Pool).  I did a bit of distressing of the edges just to soften things up.   I took the picture outside since today was a nice sunny day.  I think it turned out pretty nice.... it isn't so washed out as the indoor shots.

DeNami Design Sketch Challenge #3

I made a little "beachy" card today using the sketch from the current DeNami Design challenge (sketch challenge #3).   The stamps are from the {Stamps} of Life set Summer4Fun.  The set is full of cute beach images like the sandcastle that I used for the card, as well as a surfboard and beach ball.   {Stamps} of Life has lots of other really cute sets that are reasonably priced and if you join the club you get lots of special perks.    Anywho..... back to my card.  I used Flower Soft for the first time on my card.  My LSS, Artco, started carrying Flower Soft six months or so ago.  When I got the Summer4Fun set I knew I need make a trip to the store and see if they had the Sand color... which they did.  I need to work on my technique with the glue, but overall I think the card turned out pretty well.

In Stitches Challenge #10

I decided to give Jenny's current In Stitches challenge being sponsored by DeNami Designs, one of my favorite stamp companies, a go!  I used a recently purchased DeNami stamp, Large Flower Spray, for my card along with some SU! cardstock I had out to make another card.  I also used some patterned paper from the DCWV mat stack Garden Whimsy.  The colors are pretty fun and bright.  I stamped the image using SU!'s Certain Celery image on white cardstock and then the flower portion on Cameo Coral cardstock with Cameo Coral ink.   I pierced the stems and leaves of the first image and then stitched them using a light green DMC floss.  The Cameo Coral flowers were cut out and popped up on the card.  Did some matting using the patterned paper and additional cardstock.

Pursue Happiness

Finally got a chance to make a card for the current Taylored Expressions, TESC117, sketch challenge.   I used the colors from the current Color Throwdown, CTD97.   The Color Throwdown colors this week are Night of Navy, Certain Celery and Cameo Coral.  I paired them with PTI's Vintage Cream as my neutral.

I also used the TE set Discover Your Wings set for the card.  It is a set that I need to use more.  The butterflies are what got me when I first saw it.  The set has some of the most beautiful butterflies I have ever seen!  The patterned patter is from the DCWV mat stack Garden Whimsy.

Enjoy Every Moment

The current monthly challenge on the Hero Arts blog is to make a summer fun/July 4th card or to use a color layering technique.   I have had this idea for a summertime card rolling around for awhile and finally got a chance to make the card.   What says summer more than a beach scene!  I used two different Hero Arts sets (Antique Engravings & Thoughtful Messages) and a Hero Arts background stamp (Clouds) on the card.  The "grass" in the background is a stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms.   I also pulled out two neglected ink pads, Stampin Up's River Rock and Hero Arts' Soft Pool. 

I covered the card front with the Clouds stamp using Soft Pool and then added the grass with River Rock.  The shells were stamped using both Soft Pool & River Rock.  I tore two strips of patterned paper from the DCWV mat stack The Linen Closet to create the "beach" and covered them with Stickles Crystal glitter glue.  Everything was then layered on the card.  I also added a bit of glimmer to the shells using my Gelly Roll pen.

Summer Cherries

Summer is apparently going to be slow in arriving in the Northwest this year, but one thing that isn't slow in coming are cherries from Eastern Washington!  Yummy, delicious cherries like Bing and Rainier.   And it was cherries that I thought of when I saw the new monthly Hero Arts blog challenge to make a summer/4th of July card (or to use the color layering techinque).  I have had the Hero Arts cling Cherries (CG117) for quite sometime now and have never (yes, I said never) used it.  So I pulled it out for my card.   I stamped the image in Memento Tuxedo Black and then colored everything with my Copics.  I figured that since I'm taking a Copic certification class at the end of the month, it might be a good idea to finally start using them!   The patterned pattern is from the DCWV mat stack The Sweet Stack.  I used my SU! Top Note die, as well.

Flutterescent & Get Sketchy 40

It has been a long, long time since I have been able to participate in a Get Sketchy challenge.  Finally I made the time today and made the following card based on the current sketch #40.  Part of the challenge was to make a masculine/father's day card, but after I got the Flutterescent butterfly set from Layers of Color yesterday my heart was set on using it.  The butterflies are gorgeous!  I used the largest one, along with DCWV Mariposa papers for the card. 

I stamped the butterfly twice on a piece of Mariposa pp with VersaMark watermark ink and then heat embossed using Filigree white embossing powder.  I stamped the word "Wonderful" in VersaMark, as well, and embossed with the white embossing powder.  The butterflies were trimmed out, layered together and then attached to the card front.  Did a bit of distressing to the pp used on the card as well.   Thanks for taking a peek.  I so appreciate your comments!

ODBDSLC15 - Stars & Stripes!

The current Our Daily Bread Shining the Light (15) challenge is to use stars and/or stripes on your card.  I decided to use both.  One of my current favorite paper packs is DCWV's Linen Closet mat stack.  It is full of beautiful papers in all kinds of patterns, including stripes!  I had some acrylic stars that I could never figure out what to do with and so I painted one with Ranger's Cloudy Blue paint dabber and let it dry.  I recently got some crocheted ribbon from Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply Ribbon Store and used that on the card.  If you have never visited Sharon's store you need to and right away.  She has some of the yummiest ribbons out there.

The border punch is from EKSuccess and one of my favorite.  I added a couple of PTI vintage buttons.  The sentiment is from the ODBD set Friendship. After the star had dried I added it to the center of the bow with  Liquid Glass.

Jenny's Challenge

Today's card is for Jenny's Challenge (wee Memories) to make a card using some of her favorites, one of them being pink!


I got out another long neglected Hero Arts cling called "Hello" for this card. I stamped it in Memento Rosebud ink on two different SU! pinks... Pink Pirouette and Pretty in Pink and then layered as shown. Lots of pearls, stickles and rhinestones! Patterned paper is from DCWV's The Sweet Stack. Card base is PTI's Stamper Select white.
